Cookie Policy
What we store on your device, and how to change it
Last updated: 2026-08-14
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. We also use similar technologies, such as browser local storage, and this policy covers those too.
Your choice
We only set strictly necessary cookies by default. Analytics cookies are set only if you allow them — until you do, no analytics script is loaded on the page at all. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time:
We ask again at least every six months, and immediately if this policy changes in a way that affects what we store.
Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for the site to work and cannot be switched off. Under the ePrivacy rules they do not require consent.
| Cookie | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| bops_cookie_consent | Remembers the cookie choice you made here, so we do not ask again on every page. | 6 months |
| bops_lang | Remembers whether you are using the site in English or Greek. | 1 year |
| bops_popup | Remembers which announcements you have already seen or closed, so the same one is not shown to you on every visit. | Up to 13 months |
| bops_csrf | Protects sign-in and other forms against cross-site request forgery. | Session |
| bops_session | Keeps you signed in. Only set if you have an account and are signed in. | 30 days, or until you sign out |
| Local storage: authentication tokens | Holds the access and refresh tokens that keep your session alive between visits. | Until you sign out |
| Google reCAPTCHA (_GRECAPTCHA, set by google.com) | Distinguishes people from automated sign-ups on the registration form. Loaded only on pages with a protected form. | Up to 6 months (set by Google) |
Analytics cookies — only with your consent
We use analytics services to understand which pages are used, where the site is slow, and where it is confusing to use. If you refuse, no analytics script is ever added to the page and none of these cookies are created. If you accept and later change your mind, we remove the cookies and stored data we can reach and stop loading the scripts.
Our analytics also record how pages are used — the sequence of clicks, scrolls and page changes during your visit — so we can replay a session and see where the site is confusing or broken. What you type is not recorded: the contents of form fields, including passwords, are replaced with placeholders before anything leaves your browser.
| Purpose | What is stored | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Counting visits | An identifier that distinguishes one browser from another, so a returning visitor is not counted twice. | Up to 2 years |
| Session state | The state of your current visit, so the pages you view are grouped into one session, and its recording into one replay. | Up to 2 years |
| Rate limiting | A short-lived marker that limits how often data is sent. | Minutes |
Some of these are kept in browser local storage rather than in cookies. They are set by our analytics providers, who process the data on our behalf; the session-recording data for this site is stored in the European Union. We do not use advertising or profiling cookies, and we do not share this data with advertisers. If you would like the current list of providers we use, ask us through the contact page.
Controlling cookies in your browser
As well as the settings above, every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop parts of the site — such as signing in and the language switch — from working.
Changes to this policy
If we add cookies or change what existing ones are used for, we publish a new version of this policy and ask for your choice again. See also our Privacy Policy.
